Village houses
The older houses in Acton's village centers were built long before 1978. They need lead-safe prep and careful work on clapboard and trim.
Acton borders Stow, about five miles from Ed's base, and he paints homes in every one of its villages.
Acton is a town of villages: Acton Center, South Acton, West Acton, North Acton and East Acton, each with its own cluster of older houses. Around them are neighborhoods built mostly after 1940, many of them between 1970 and 2000. Nashoba Brook and Fort Pond Brook wind through town to the Assabet River, and the Isaac Davis monument in Acton Center is a reminder of how far back the town goes.
Acton is a short drive northeast from Stow, so getting here is easy. Ed comes out himself to look at the house and talk through what's bothering you about it. Whether you need exterior house painting on village clapboard, interior painting in a 1970s colonial, or deck staining, cabinet painting and power washing, he writes a detailed estimate so you know what you're paying for. He drops by every day while his crew is working to check the work and answer questions.

Most Acton homes went up after 1940. Colonials from the 1970s to the 1990s often need trim repair and a full prime on sun-worn walls.

Acton Center, South Acton and West Acton are local historic districts. Exterior changes there can need a certificate of appropriateness.
Have a Acton house that needs paint?

“I have used Beacon in the past and would use them again.”
“The team worked hard to prep the surface, which had lots of peeling paint.”
“One of the best experiences I have had with a contractor in recent memory.”
“Ed came by each day to monitor progress and make sure I was satisfied.”
“Ed was not intimidated, gave us a lot of great advice, and did an outstanding job.”
Ed is 5 miles northeast of Stow. Call him now.
Yes. Acton is right next to Stow, a short drive for Ed's walk-throughs and daily visits.
Size, the condition of the old paint, how much trim and how many windows there are, and any repairs the wood needs first. Historic district work can add steps too. Ed sees the house in person and writes out every part of the job before you decide.
That depends on sun, shade and the prep under the last coat, so there's no fixed number. Ed looks at where the current paint is failing and why, then plans the prep so the new coat holds up longer.
Talk to Acton's Historic District Commission before settling on new colors or changing any trim. Ed will handle the paint side once you know what's allowed.
If it was built before 1978, the paint may contain lead. Massachusetts requires lead-safe practices when that paint is disturbed, and Ed will explain how the prep is done.
Yes. Interior work can be done any time of year, and winter is a good time to plan it.
