Two- and three-deckers
Stacked porches and three stories of siding take more ladder work, plus good planning with every household in the building.
At about eighteen miles east of Stow, Arlington is the farthest town Beacon covers, and Ed still sees every house in person.
Arlington started out as Menotomy, saw heavy fighting on April 19, 1775, and still has the Jason Russell House to show for it. Today its streets mix two-family and triple-decker homes with smaller single-family houses, including Colonial Revival and Craftsman designs and bungalows from the early 1900s. Spy Pond and the Mystic Lakes are close by, and the Minuteman Bikeway runs through Arlington Center.
Ed makes the trip to see each house in person, and on a two- or three-decker he'll look at every porch and stairway. Exterior house painting on stacked porches, interior painting in early 1900s rooms, kitchen cabinet painting, power washing and deck staining are all part of the work here. He writes an estimate that spells out the prep and products, and checks in on the crew every day the job is running.

Arlington has seven local historic districts, from Broadway to Jason/Gray, overseen by the Arlington Historic District Commissions.

Bungalows and Colonial Revival homes from this era predate 1978 by decades, so lead-safe prep is part of the job.

Yes. It's the farthest town Beacon serves, so call Ed early to talk about timing.
Porch floors, rails and steps take the most wear, so they usually need attention before the siding. Ed picks a product suited to each surface and tells you what upkeep to expect.
If you're in one of the seven local districts, contact the Arlington Historic District Commissions before changing the exterior, and ask whether a new color needs review.
Yes. Ed will look at access, porches and the condition of each floor before writing the estimate.
